Learn and grow with the Kalo Pahu Waiwai!
Kalo (Taro) in Hawaiian culture not only provides food and sustenance, it symbolizes our direct relationship with ʻāina.
The story of Hāloa tells of the first Hawaiian and kānaka Hawaiʻi as direct descendants of the taro plant. While learning about kalo, keiki deepen their relationship with their ancestor, and in turn, can mālama (take care of) it as such.
This pahu waiwai (resource box) includes materials curated by the kumu (teacher) of Kūlaniākea to perpetuate ʻike kūpuna (ancestral knowledge) starting with our kūpuna (ancestor) in training, our keiki (child, offspring, descendent).
