Our kūpuna had more than 400 different names for clouds and cloud formations. There were specific kahuna (priest or expert) that were designated to read clouds and their omens. Today, meteorologists use clouds to describe various weather conditions. Out on the ocean, navigators use clouds to anticipate weather, navigate, and find land. Through this pahu waiwai we hope to inspire your keiki to be outdoors, connect to their ancestors, and become navigators.

This pahu waiwai (resource box) includes materials curated by the kumu (teacher) of Kūlaniākea to perpetuate ʻike kūpuna (ancestral knowledge) starting with our kūpuna (ancestor) in training, our keiki (child, offspring, descendent).
